Full-Day Mediation: $3,500 Flat Fee
Our full-day service is designed for self-represented parties who want dedicated time to discuss parenting, support, property, and debts. We also mediate disputes like child support and alimony modification. Sessions are available in person in Summerville, with online mediation throughout South Carolina. A full day is an opportunity to make progress; a complete agreement is not guaranteed.
1. Schedule Together
Contact the office for available dates and the mediation agreement. We will explain preparation, payment, and scheduling requirements before your session. Include the other party on scheduling emails whenever possible. Please do not send private descriptions of the dispute or ask Carolyn to take a position before mediation. We cannot make the other person participate in mediation. You will both need to agree that you want to participate. At mediation, you can choose to be in the same room, separate rooms, or both depending on your needs.
2. Prepare for Your Day
Gather recent pay information, tax returns, bank and retirement balances, a list of assets and debts, and monthly expenses. For parenting issues, bring proposed schedules and school or childcare information. Consider your priorities, areas for compromise, and practical solutions. An independent attorney can help you understand your rights before mediation.
3. Work Toward Agreement
Carolyn helps both parties identify issues, explore options, and discuss proposals. You may meet together, separately, or both. You decide whether to accept any proposal. Mediation is a conversation, not a trial.
4. Understand the Next Steps
If agreement is reached, Carolyn prepares a written summary of the terms. Court pleadings, independent legal advice, filing, and court approval are separate from her neutral mediation role. Experienced referrals are available for those last few steps. South Carolina divorce or Separate Support and Maintenance requirements still apply. If issues remain unresolved, further mediation or court proceedings may be needed.
Attorney-Represented Cases
Mediation at an hourly rate is available for parties with attorneys. Please have counsel contact the office for current hourly rates and scheduling details.
