Carolyn M. Bone, certified South Carolina Family Court mediator

Carolyn M. Bone
Attorney/Mediator

A Family Law Background. A Neutral Approach.

Carolyn M. Bone helps families work through difficult decisions with a calm, practical approach to mediation. A Summerville native, she has practiced exclusively in South Carolina Family Court since 2008 and has been a certified South Carolina Family Court mediator since 2017. She founded The Law Office of Carolyn M. Bone, LLC in 2014. She has also served as a Guardian ad Litem for children in both private and Department of Social Services cases.

Her family law experience gives her an understanding of the financial, parenting, and personal issues that can make separation difficult. In mediation, she uses that experience to help both parties identify the questions that matter, exchange information, and explore realistic solutions.

Your Decisions. Our Guidance.

Carolyn serves as a neutral facilitator, not an advocate for either person. She explains the process, encourages respectful communication, and helps parties consider options. She may discuss general legal principles, but cannot give individual legal advice, decide your case, or tell either party whether an agreement is in their best legal interest.

You remain in control of whether to agree. Independent legal advice is encouraged before signing final terms. If a settlement is reached, Carolyn prepares a written summary; court pleadings and approval are handled separately. Referrals are available for those next steps.

Education and Experience

Carolyn earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2008. She graduated summa cum laude from Converse College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. She is a former Dorchester School District II teacher and has taught at the undergraduate level and currently serves as an Attorney Instructor at the Lowcountry Mediation Center Mediation Clinic at Charleston School of Law. Carolyn is proud member of the Board of Directors for the Lowcountry Mediation Center. More information here.
